Form and function

I have often observed that the laws and forces of nature create very similar forms across a wide range of media. This is turbulent water - or is it a slab of marble? One is completely transitory and changes by the millisecond. The other is (if you’ll pardon the pun) set in stone and created by forces of extreme heat and pressure that couldn’t be more different to what we see here.
