When you look at a scene like this in real life, the most overwhelming thing about it is the noise. There is such a feeling of power and energy . Many waterfall photographs are taken at a slow shutter speed that blends the water and makes it look a bit like milk. This shot was taken at with fast shutter (1/250th) because I felt it better conveyed a sense of the energy involved.
